"I can't say enough good things about Bakers Waterproofing. Years ago they did waterproofing for me; this time I had them back for foundation repairs. It was a positive experience and quality job from beginning to end. Marshall, who came out to assess the situation and give me an estimate, was so courteous, knowledgeable and thorough. I had many questions and he was patient as he clearly explained and illustrated everything I asked about. I felt good about the price after some discounts. I was even more impressed when I got a call the next day, which was a Saturday, to schedule the job. I did have a bit of a wait, but my situation wasn't urgent and I thought the wait was reasonable for the time of year and volume of work they do. But I was really impressed with Jim and Pat Clark who came out to do the work. I had a confirmation call two days before, and Jim and Pat called when they were on their way so I'd know when to expect them. They were so friendly, professional and respectful and their work ethic was amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure all issues were addressed by their quality work. It's an old house so they ran into a couple of issues that they handled without complaining it getting upset. They ended up having to stay many hours past the time they expected to be finished. It was clear that they take pride in their work and weren't about to leave until everything was completed according to their obviously high standards. Jim and his brother Pat were a pleasure to have working here for two days. They're the best among many crews I've had work at the house over the years. Dedicated employees who do quality work make all the difference. They are a true asset and the foundation of Bakers' excellent reputation. I would hire Bakers Waterproofing again without a second thought."

Types of Concrete Damage in Johnstown

Common Causes of your Concrete Problems in Johnstown

Have you noticed uneven floors or doors that won't close properly? These are often signs of foundation settling or shifting, which is a common issue in and around Johnstown. The region's unique environmental conditions play a significant role in how these problems develop. In Johnstown, the soil composition and local topography make homes susceptible to the effects of changing moisture levels. With the interplay of seasonal moisture fluctuations and occasional freeze-thaw cycles, the ground beneath your home can expand and contract significantly. This movement can disturb the stability of the soil, leading to the inevitable settling or shifting of your foundation over time.

When the soil beneath a foundation shifts, it can cause cracks in walls, floors, or even the foundation itself. In homes around Johnstown, poorly drained yards or high water tables can exacerbate these conditions, as excess water adds weight to the soil, encouraging further movement. Early detection is crucial; catching these signs early can prevent minor issues from escalating into major structural problems. Undertaking concrete lifting in these scenarios can stabilize foundations by correcting the uneven surfaces and ensuring that the stresses from soil movement are adequately managed. This helps protect the integrity of your home and can save significant repair costs in the long run.

FAQs

Many contractors offer financing options to help manage repair costs. For concrete lifting, consider asking about available payment plans that can ease the expense burden.

Polyurethane foam lifting involves injecting an expanding foam that fills voids under sunken slabs, restoring them to their original position. This method stabilizes the base and is efficient for uneven concrete surfaces.

Tree roots can displace soil and cause concrete slabs to crack or sink over time. Their growth creates pressure that leads to soil erosion and slab settlement, necessitating repair.

Typically, a concrete lifting project can be completed in a few hours, depending on the extent of the damage. The procedure involves slab leveling and may vary with site conditions; contact a professional for specific timelines.

Yes, water erosion can lead to the sinking of concrete slabs by washing away the underlying soil. This results in voids forming under the slab, requiring repair through methods like slab leveling or foam injection.
