Basement Waterproofing in Munhall, PA

A married couple moved into a Munhall, PA house with a lot of work to be completed. They added basement waterproofing to their long list of home improvement projects.

One of our Certified Waterproofing and Foundation Repair Specialists, Chris Shrontz, inspected the house to design a lasting custom solution. Foreman Ken Kahlbaugh and his crew installed our unique WaterGuard below-floor drain, TripleSafe sump pump system, CleanSpace wall vapor barrier, IceGuard discharge protection, and LawnScape discharge outlet. All of these proven, patented products function together to keep moisture out of the basement and far away from the home!

Now, the couple can breathe easy knowing that they won't have to worry about a wet basement. On to the next home improvement project for these homeowners.

Waterproofing in Munhall, PA

After 7 years in this Munhall home, water seepage issues developed in the basement. Every time it rained, streams of water would enter through the back of the house. The homeowners needed a waterproofing solution, so they would no longer have to deal with a wet basement. Also, in the future, they plan to use their basement as dry storage space.

Our Foreman, Jeff Kula, and his crew installed multiple waterproofing products. This includes our BrightWall System, WaterGuard Drainage System, SuperSump Pump System in a TripleSafe Liner, IceGuard Fitting, and LawnScape Outlet. BrightWall is a waterproof plastic paneling system installed on unfinished basement walls. This system will keep moisture out of the basement and give it a clean, new look. At the base of the wall, our crew installed WaterGuard. Our unique WaterGuard drain was installed below the floor slab and on top of the footing. All leaks will enter our drainage system and travel to our sump pump system. The crew installed our powerful, cast-iron SuperSump pump in our durable TripleSafe sump liner. IceGuard was an added feature for this sump pump system. Our IceGuard anti-freeze fitting was installed to discharge water away from the home only in the event the downspout pipe clogs or freezes. The sump pump system connected to 30 feet of our 4-inch downspout extension. Water will travel through this underground pipe and surface at our LawnScape Outlet installed at the front of the home. LawnScape is our grated outlet that rests flush with the lawn. This is a great product to keep water far away from the home, with no added concern for a tripping hazard.

The homeowners now have peace of mind with a bright, clean, and dry basement! That means it's finally time to get started on their new dry storage area!

Bowing Wall Stabilzed

The cracked wall of Jay’s basement was preventing him from closing the deal on selling his New Castle, PA home. The wall was not just cracking it was bowing and needed to stabilized. After attempting to fix the problem himself with no resolution he called Baker’s.

We stabilized the wall with our low-key CarbonArmor straps. The straps were applied to the wall with epoxy resin to hold it in place. CarbonArmor is 10x stronger than steel, so it is s a very reliable solution to repairing bowing, bucking, and tipping basement walls.

Bowed Wall Stabilized Using CarbonArmor

The 35 ft. front wall which consisted of both the basement and garage had inward movement or bowing of 1”. The significant bowing was causing concern for the structural safety for this Mount Lebanon home.

Service Advisor Tom Faessel inspected the wall and determined that our most recommended way to stabilizing bowed walls, GeoLock wall anchors would not be usable since we could not access the exterior yard. No worries! The great thing about Baker’s Waterproofing is that we have multiple solutions to fix problems. Instead Tom placed 10 evenly spaced CarbonArmor straps to the back wall using epoxy resin. The straps are 10x stronger than steel and are the same technology used by the Army of Defense to fix bridges, bomb shelters, and skyscrapers.

Once in place the CarbonArmor straps gave the wall the stabilization it needed.

Bowing Foundation Wall Repaired in Export, PA

The bowing along that the side wall of an Export, PA basement was causing concern for the safety of resident Kate’s home. Knowing about our “Strong Reputation and Solid Foundation” she called Baker’s Waterproofing.

A free and thorough estimate was given by experienced Service Advisor Tom Eckersley. To provide a solution that would stabilize the bowing side wall he evenly placed 5 GeoLock wall anchors. The anchors also came with a tightening kit that was given to Kate which she will be able to use over time to attempt to straighten the wall back to its orginal position.

Once in place Kate was thrilled to have a safe and stabile home!

Sinking Home Stabilized!

Delores of Belle Vernon had noticed that her home was slowly sinking away. It was clearly obvious along her front porch with measured settlement of 2”. Fearing for the structural safety of her home Delores called Baker’s to provide a solution that could stabilize her foundation.

Service Advisor Justin Lowden proposed our patented Push Pier system to lift the house. The push piers were installed by attaching brackets to the footer so to hydraulically drive galvanized steel piers into the more bearing soil that resides deep into the ground. This transferred the weight of the home onto the piers creating the stabilization that Delores' home needed.

A home located in The Mount Lebanon School District had a bowed in wall along the garage. Homeowner Alex called Baker’s for a free estimate.

Service Advisor Michael Richmond determined that the wall had inwardly moved 1”. After the free inspection he proposed 5 Geo Lock anchors to restore the 24' side wall. The anchors create instant stabilization, and over time can even attempt to straighten the wall back to its orginal position.

Sidewalk Slab Repair

The front sidewalk leading up to this Allison Park home was greatly uneven. The slab had sunk so much that it was becoming a trip hazard to anyone visiting the home. Homeowner Paul called Baker’s after seeing advertising on our PolyLEVEL foam.

Service Advisor Tom Eckersley conducted the free estimate and explained the numerous benefits of the product. Our construction crew installed the foam by drilling penny sized holes into the slab for the foam to be pumped underneath. The foam expanded, raising the slab back to level. Afterwards the holes were patched with concrete.

PolyLEVEL is a new and innovative product that combines the technique of mudjacking with modern technology from our network supplier, Foundation Supportworks. PolyLEVEL is a lightweight foam that is 100% waterproof, and significantly more affordable than completely replacing sunken slabs. It has been used for years to repair roads for commercial projects by engineers and is now able to be used for residential areas too!

An Extreme Bowing Wall Stabilized!

Charles of Beaver Falls was buying a house with a multitude of problems. In particular, the 39 ft. front wall had severe bowing with the wall facing 2” inwards.

Service Advisor Nick Freda conducted the free estimate of the bowing wall. He determined that in order to stabilize the wall 8 evenly spaced Channel anchors would need to be installed. The anchoring installation process begins on the outside by inserting 16x16 steel earth plates into the ground approx. 12 ft. away from the home. Then on the inside 1” holes were drilled into the wall for our galvanized steel rods to be pushed out to the earth plates. When the Channel wall plates were attached to the steel rods in the basement the wall was anchored to more the load bearing soil outside, providing the needed stabilization. A tightening kit was also given to Charles which he will use to attempt to straighten the wall over time.

Foundation Settlement in Munhall PA

Homeowners John and Linda of Munhall needed a solution to their sunken foundation.

To restore the foundation 13 of our patented Push Piers were installed. These straight steel piers were attached to the footer of the home by a bracket. The piers were then hydraulically driven into the ground to stronger and more supporting soil. This allowed the weight of the home to transfer on to the piers instead, making the home stabile and secure.

Basement Waterproofing with Downspout Extensions!

Marilee of Mount Pleasant really wanted to sell her home but was being prevented due to the puddles of water that was intruding the front and left side walls of her much needed basement.

Service Advisor Michael Richmond gave the free estimate of the basement. After the inspection Michael proposed our interior drainage system, WaterGuard to the left and front walls. Unlike like other French drains which are installed under the footer in an area prone to clogging, WaterGuard  easily rests on top of the footer in a dug out trench along the wall. He also had a SuperSump sump pump as well as our LawnScape downspout extensions installed to direct water further away from the home as part of Marilee's waterproofing system.

After the installation Marilee was now able to place her home on the market!

Waterproofing with Downspout Extensions !

Ken of Monessen, PA, really wanted to sell his home but first had to fix the constant water intrusion that was leaving large puddles along his carpeted basement floor.

After a free inspection we determined the best solution for Ken’s specific needs. We installed our WaterGuard interior drainage system to the front corner wall, where water was entering. Unlike other French drains that are installed under the footer of the home in an area prone to clogging, our patented WaterGuard system easily rests on top of the footer along the wall in a dug out trench. This placement is nonivasive and is designed to keep the drain clean.

Connected to the drain was the SuperSump sump pump. The Super can move 2500 gallons of water per hour out of a basement. As an additional product, Ken purchased 20 ft. of our LawnScape downspout extensions to divert water further away from the foundation by placing the drain in a trench under the ground.

Both products come with a Lifetime Transferable Warranty.

A Complete Waterproofing Solution

It is safe to say that having several feet of water in your basement is a key sign that you made need some help! Homeowner John had this very unsafe issue that greatly damaged his much needed storage area. He called Baker’s for a solution.

Service Advisor Justin Lowden gave the free inspection of the basement area. He created a system that would waterproof the entire basement area as well keep the basement dry all the time. Justin was able to provide this by using our WaterGuard interior drainage system around the entire perimeter of the basement with a TripleSafe sump pump. The Triple Safe contains 3 pumps in 1! The first 2 pumps have the ability to pump 6,200 gallons of water per hour out the basement, while the 3rd pump is battery operated and kicks in when power fails to the first 2 pumps. As an additional product 65ft. of our LawnScape downspout extensions were installed to divert water further away from the home.

Waterproofing with Downspout Extensions !

Homeowner Joe needed to waterproof his basement/garage area before he could even think about selling his Pleasant Hills home. The front wall was intruding water and mold was even starting to grow in the corner!

Baker’s Waterproofing repaired the leak by installing our WaterGuard patented french drainage system flush with the floor. Our french drain is a result of years of research and design from the largest supplier of basement waterproofing products in the world, and all are backed with a transferable lifetime warranty if you sell your home, just like Joe. Connected to the drain, was a SuperSump pump system with a connected battery backup which allows this system to work even during power shortages.

Additionally Joe wanted to route water out and away from his foundation. Baker’s extended his downspout by installing LawnScape drain piping within the soil of the yard.

Crawl Space Encapsulated

The property owner of a Wheeling WV rental house wanted to provide a safer living enviroment for his residents. His unprotected crawl space was an open area for disurbances such as water, mold, rodents, critters, and even cold air to come and seep up into the house.

Service Advisor Justin Lowden traveled to the home and conducted the free estimate. He determined that to encapsulate and protect this crawl space he had our patented CleanSpace 20 ml thick liner applied to the 505 sq. ft. area. After CleanSpace was applied his house was safer and now usuable to hold storage.

On top of that a portion of her front wall was also starting to bow up to 1” in the worst place. To say the least Caroline was not happy and decided to call Baker’s Waterproofing to have her basement examined.

Service Advisor Chris Shrontz came to Caroline’s home and was able to determine the best solution for repairing the basement. He proposed that in order to repair the wall, 4 Channel wall anchors would be installed where the front wall was bowing. This technique will stabilize and with time potentially straighten the wall back to its original position.

To take care of the water moisture that was damaging Caroline’s finished basement Chris had 30 ft. of WaterGuard drain piping installed along the side and front wall where water was entering, along with a SuperSump sump pump at the lowest level of the foundation.

As additional features Caroline also purchased 30 ft. of LawnScape downspout extensions that will direct water away from the foundation, and 80 sq. ft. of ThermalDry. ThermalDry is a tile lock flooring system that creates a moisture and thermal barrier that will keep your basement dry and at least 10 degrees warmer than a concrete basement.

After the installation Caroline was happy that her finished basement was stablized and now free from water damages.

The rods are then connected to 16x16 earth plates that are located underground approx. 12 ft. away from the foundation and wall plates (like seen in this photo) are attached. Over time the anchor is torqued and will help to even straighten the wall.

Foundation Settlement Repair

George of Coraopolis was seeing significant cracking along his foundation, a key sign of settlement or sinking. Fearing for the safety of his home he called Baker’s to look into repairing his foundation.

We repaired the foundation by installing 5 Push Piers. The PushPier system is able to permanently stabilize your foundation, and allows the best opportunity of lifting the foundation back to its original level. To install these piers your footing is first exposed and a bracket is secured to the footing. Next, steel tubes (piers) are hydraulically driven through the bracket to competent soils or bedrock. The weight of the home is then transferred through the piers to load bearing strata. The home is then lifted back to level (if it is possible).

After the installation there is no doubt that George was glad that his foundation was now safely secured.
