A homeowner built her home in Wheeling, West Virginia about 45 years ago. She has been living with a basement that floods during heavy rainfall. She was concerned about the safety of the home’s foundation and it’s overall value in the marketplace.
Recently, the homeowner decided to sell the house in the next 5 to 7 years. Because of that she knew the basement had to be repaired before listing it on the market. That’s when she called Baker’s Waterproofing to schedule a free inspection.
Our Certified Waterproofing and Foundation Repair Specialist, Don Stiffler, completed a thorough inspection of the foundation. Don advised the homeowner to install a full perimeter waterproofing system to protect the home against basement flooding now and in the future.
Our crew, led by Theron Block, installed 1 TripleSafe sump pump system below the floor slab. It includes 2 powerful Zoeller pumps and 1 UltraSump battery backup pump. The crew broke out only a small sump hole and small trench along the perimeter of the basement. They installed our unique, cut-to-size WaterGuard drain (194 feet) in the perimeter trench just on top of the foundation footing. The drain and sump system rest in a bed of clean gravel near the floor-wall joint to collect groundwater at this common entry point.
Theron installed 194 feet pf our bright white CleanSpace vapor barrier on the water-damaged basement walls. The vapor barrier stops water, water vapor, and humidity from passing through and directs wall leaks down into the drain below.
The crew led the sump pump discharge lines out of the airtight TripleSafe system to the outside of the foundation. Then, they installed 2 IceGuard fittings to protect the basement against a clogged or frozen line. These 2 discharge lines and 2 existing gutter downspouts let water reach the surface at the end of 4 different LawnScape outlets.
This full perimeter waterproofing system now protects the basement against flooding water. Plus, the appearance of this living space has improved the home’s value.
