Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Basement Space Improved with Waterproofing System in Kingwood, WV

Thursday, January 10th, 2019 by Mallory Finch

A homeowner in Kingwood needed to complete a few home improvement projects before placing his house on the market. One high-priority project included repairing his wet, moldy basement that also produces a foul odor.

Our Certified Waterproofing Specialist, Thomas McKee, inspected the inside and outside of the property during the homeowner's scheduled appointment.

Tom found two failing sump pumps (previously installed by a different contractor) that let groundwater into the basement. Tom advised the homeowner of the repair solution his basement requires based on his needs. This included our proven sump pump system that can keep this basement dry long-term.

At a later date, Theron and his crew arrived at the property to complete the basement waterproofing project.

This basement has a 171-foot perimeter with evidence of mold along a 130-foot area. Theron sprayed our Mold-X2 stain remover and anti-microbial cleaner to further protect the basement from surface mold growth.

The crew addressed groundwater leakage by installing our reliable TripleSafe sump pump system with the UltraSump battery back-up pump. The TripleSafe system was placed in a more effective location than the other failing sump pumps.

The crew installed 171 feet of our WaterGuard and FlowGuard perimeter drainage system. This doesn't include the additional 26 feet of drainage pipe that helps direct water from the far side of the basement to the TripleSafe system. This will help prevent excess groundwater from leaking onto the basement floor in the future. They also installed a 3-foot grated TrenchDrain pipe in front of the basement doorway to collect potential leaks from the outside.

Theron also placed 171 feet of our bright white CleanSpace vapor barrier on the basement walls. CleanSpace is durable, washable and has anti-microbial protection built into the system. This will stop moisture and humidity from passing through the foundation and direct wall leaks into the drainage system below. This wall system brightened up the basement and created a comfortable look and feel--an ideal selling-point.

Now, this basement is clean, dry and ready to be listed on the market.
