For the 22nd year in a row, our company had the opportunity to be a part of Contractor Nation’s annual convention.
Every year, there is a unique theme. For example, 2015's theme was Build, 2016's Inspire, and 2017's Impact. The Impact Convention was just what we needed to connect with fellow dealers and learn how to better impact customers, colleagues, and communities. Our team of six arrived in Hartford, Connecticut on September 17th for this lively 3-day event.

The opening ceremony was an unexpected experience. The speaker and founder of Basement Systems, Inc., Larry Janesky, gave nearly 1,400 people something to be excited for in the days to follow.
We could not have anticipated what we walked into on awards night…
Employees sat on stage in front of their colleagues while Larry shared their trying journeys. Each journey was different, but the results were the same: a leader in our network recognized true potential. Employees in our network took a chance on someone that otherwise may not have led a successful life. From that night on, we knew it would be another great convention.
The next morning, we heard from key note speaker Rorke Denver. The Former U.S. Navy SEALs Commander ran every phase of training for the U.S. Navy SEALs and led special-forces missions in international hot spots. Currently, he is an author that now teaches leadership and motivates companies to perform at their highest levels in the marketplace.
Why did nearly 1,400 people jump up and down all at once? Rorke Denver.

At convention, he reminded us that there is always room for improvement. He believes people can reach their full potential by tapping into their unused talents. It goes to show there is always something new to learn (including the very real powers of a cold shower). In my opinion, he was one of the most engaging and inspiring speakers I’ve ever met!
Dinner, awards, and then...
In only 10 minutes, everyone in attendance pledged over $40,000 to Soldier Strong. It was an honor to watch that number rise as all 1,400 of us sat in that room. This inspiring act made me proud to be a part of this generous network.
The last day of convention was the best by far. Throughout the day, everyone participated in education sessions related to their department. Personally, I gained valuable insights with actionable items that I can’t wait to implement in our marketing department!
Did someone say Oktoberfest?
After a full 3 days of “conventioning,” it was time to celebrate all our hard work over the past year. The theme was Oktoberfest, and the night was fun-filled with lederhosen, bratwurst, accordions, and so on. It was the perfect way to end convention!
On behalf of our management team and as a first-time attendee, I can say without a doubt this was an impactful convention. Going forward, I will continue to strengthen my connections in the Contractor Nation network because the friends I made truly made this a great experience!
