Baker's Waterproofing Case Studies: Garage Foundation Repair in Champion, PA

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016 by Alyssa Petrella

A Champion homeowner had a 3 story non-attached garage with a front block foundation wall of 31 ft. across that was bowing. Shawn the homeowner called Baker’s to have his failing wall stabilized.

Baker’s determined that the wall had bowed or moved 1 7/8”, and without a proper solution, the wall would just get worse with time. In most cases foundation bowing is caused by hydrostatic pressure of expanding soil against the foundation. We repaired the wall by installing 6 GeoLock wall anchors along the 31 ft. wall. Wall anchors utilize the inside and outside of the garage by anchoring interior wall plates in the basement to exterior 16x16 earth plates submerged in the soil of exterior yard 12 ft. away. We faced the challenge of installing 1 anchor wall plate between 2 panel boxes, and on the outside, faced the challenge of installing the earth plates within the gravel driveway.

The project lasted 2 days, and Shawn's garage was fully repaired.
