Baker's Waterproofing Case Studies: Basement Waterproofing with Underground Discharge Extension in Mount Pleasant, PA

Thursday, October 11th, 2018 by Mallory Finch

A homeowner in Mount Pleasant had been dealing with water coming in through the basement walls for the last four years. The married couple's goal is to protect the investment in their home, so they called Baker's Waterproofing for a free on-site inspection.

Our Certified Waterproofing Specialist, Chris Shrontz, was scheduled to visit the property. Chris has worked at Baker's Waterproofing for about 25 years, so the couple knew that they had a highly experienced advisor. Chris discussed the problem and potential solutions with the couple. He learned that they only wanted to fix the problematic areas and use the basement for dry storage space once the project is complete.

The homeowner asked Chris to take a look at their existing downspout before drafting a proposal.

Chris designed a proposal that included our TripleSafe sump pump system with 1 powerful Zoeller pump and a below-floor drainage system. The design shows the discharge line running to the outside of the home where our crew would attach an IceGuard fitting. This line would run underground about 15 feet and daylight farther out in the lawn. Chris advised the homeowner to rerun their existing downspout away from the foundation.

Once the couple signed the contract with Baker's Waterproofing we scheduled an installation date. Our crew arrived at the property with a variety of tools and patented waterproofing products.

The crew, led by Foreman Ken Kahlbaugh, began breaking out concrete to create a small perimeter trench for the drain and a small sump hole. They removed all debris from the home and carefully installed the system. On the home's exterior, the waterproofing system includes a fitting on the discharge line to help prevent basement flooding. At the end of the underground discharge extension is our green, grated LawnScape outlet for water to reach the surface. Once they tested the system, they hand-poured new concrete and cleaned up the work area.

Ken and his crew successfully completed the waterproofing project in 2 days.
