External Waterproofing
External waterproofing may be your first consideration if you are having basement seepage problems. There are several external problems that may be causing water to spill into your basement or hydrostatic pressure on your foundation to force water through the cove joint. Let us take make sure that these problems aren't what is causing your problem before we move onto larger projects.
Gutters and Downspouts
Broken gutters and poor downspouts can cause water to pool around your foundation or spill over it. If your gutters are clogged or broken, water spills out and lands against your foundation. If your downspouts spill out without proper extensions, you will have to deal with the same problem. Baker's Waterproofing offers several solutions for your downspouts.
LawnScape
The LawnScape outlets are a great way to ensure that the water from your gutters will not interfere with either your landscaping or your foundation. It simply runs from an underground downspout, providing a camouflaged outlet for the water significantly away from your foundation. It will work for sump pump discharge lines as well - as long as they are over 8 feet long.
Yard Grading
Often, basement leaks are caused simply by the slope of the soil around your foundation. Correcting this problem can eliminate flooding all on its own. Simply walk the perimeter of your home, inspecting for any areas where:
- Soil or landscaping goes above the top of the foundation wall
- Water pools against your foundation
- The slope of landscaping or concrete is directed toward your house
With these simple tips, you may be able to bypass total basement waterproofing and take care of the problem easily.
